Anne Miller stakes out some big and effective ideas early in this fascinating and practical book about the power of metaphors, then develops them thoroughly and turns them into simple, powerful tools that any reader can use as he looks for ways to convey ideas and connect with an audience.
Their are many “Of course!” moments as Anne develops her thesis that metaphors are the verbal pictures worth a thousand words, then offers solid advice on how to shape attention-grabbing metaphors that are right for one’s needs and audience and warns us away from the pitfalls. And this is no spectator sport: the “Your Turn” section in each chapter provides an immediate opportunity to try new skills and check progress toward the goal of becoming a fluent Metaphorian.

I involve my customers in the many benefits of radio advertising. This book is great because with metaphors I can quickly speak to my customer’s “blindspot”…thus putting the appropriate picture inside their head. My customers connect immediately to what it is I wish to convey to them. I’ve found it to be a book that has been helpful in writing radio ads as well!!

The title is “Metaphorically Selling” but I was recommended to read it as part of a public speaking program, and I found it as valuable as would any sales person. With humor, examples, and straight-out “how to” Anne Miller walks the reader through the processes of accessing the audience to discover what metaphors will work best with them, developing the metaphor in a series of easy, workbook style steps, how best to use them, and how to avoid mis-using them.
I recommend this book to anyone who uses words to connect with others, or to inform, persuade, or sell anything.

I have bought more than 100 books on selling techniques, psychology, attitude, performance, etc. This book should be alongside the bible for sales success. I re-read the book as soon as I finished it and I consider myself far more comfortable during presentations using Ms. Miller’s advice.
